Halitosis Treatment

Chronic bad breath, also known as halitosis, cannot necessarily be treated by brushing your teeth and using mouthwash. Unlike the smell of a meal or “morning breath,” halitosis will linger and may be a sign of something more serious.

If you have noticed that your breath hasn’t been fresh lately, start by following a healthy daily routine – brush at least twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste and floss daily. Make sure to drink plenty of water and try some sugarless gum to get your saliva flowing.

If you notice your bad breath still persists, it’s time to visit our office. Halitosis is often caused by dental issues. Cavities and gum disease can give odor-causing bacteria places to hide that are difficult to clean with your toothbrush. Together, we will track down the cause. With an exam and professional cleaning, we can rule out or treat any oral health issues such as gum disease and we will advise you on next steps including recommended dental products and follow up.
